A Winnipeg taxi driver is accused of sexually assaulting a man and attempting to bribe the victim to drop the charges.

Winnipeg police said a 55-year-old man was providing local transportation on May 15 in the Broadway area.

Police said a 22-year-old man requested transportation and entered the vehicle. The driver made inappropriate sexual advances towards him, which he declined.

According to police, the man drove the victim to the 1100 block of Main Street and sexually assaulted him.

The man was eventually driven to his destination, and he reported the incident to police. Members of the Sex Crimes Unit opened an investigation.

Police said the suspect learned about the investigation and went to the victim’s home Tuesday. He offered him money to drop the complaint, police said.

The man declined, and contacted police again.

Mohinder Sarkaria has been charged with sexual assault and attempting to obstruct justice.

He was remanded into custody.
