Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the drive-by shooting death of Darcy Coutu. The father of three was killed May 10 outside a Pembina Highway hotel.

Police arrested Garret Alexander Gamble of Winnipeg and charged him with first degree murder on June 4.

Police believe Coutu was the victim of a premeditated drive-by shooting - but probably not the intended target.

The shooting happened at around 2:00 a.m. outside the Quality Inn on Pembina Highway near Grant Avenue. He was outside on the patio when he was hit a number of times.

Police say Coutu was at the hotel with his cousin, who sources tell CTV News is a member of the Zig Zag Crew street gang.

That cousin had allegedly got into an argument with the man who is now charged with murder, but it was Coutu who was shot when he went out later onto the patio.
