A man charged with sexually assaulting two women on the same night last November has pleaded guilty to his role in the crimes.

On Monday Justin Hudson, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl and then hours later a 23-year-old woman on November 8, 2014.

A teenage boy who Hudson implicated in the attacks as his accomplice can’t be named because he was 17 years old at the time. The teen is now 18 years old and is still in custody. He hasn’t entered a plea.

A publication ban protects the names of both victims.

Court heard Hudson and a co-accused were out celebrating the birthday of the co-accused the night of the attacks.

Crown attorney Debbie Buors told court their plan at the time was to go out and break into cars and find out what they could steal.

Court heard that Hudson drank five to six beers prior to going out.

Buors told court Hudson and the co-accused lured the 16-year-old victim to a path under the Midtown Bridge near the Assiniboine River at around 12:30 a.m.

Court heard how Hudson and the co-accused then robbed the girl of her jacket, shoes and iPod, attacked her and sexually assaulted her. The victim tried to get away by going into the frigid Assiniboine River. After travelling about 100 meters down the river, the victim got out of the icy water and was attacked a second time. The teen was knocked unconscious and was left seriously injured. The victim was discovered on a walking path along the Assiniboine River by a passer-by several hours after the attack at around 7.a.m. She was taken to Health Sciences Centre and spent seven days in hospital before being released.

After the attack on the 16-year-old, Buors told court Hudson and the co-accused then met a 23-year-old woman on Portage Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. that same night. Court heard Hudson and the co-accused forced the woman into a back lane before Hudson hit the woman in the head with a baseball bat. Buors told court Hudson and the teen then took turns sexually assaulting the woman near Sherbrook Pool. The woman was eventually let go by the men and she went to her brother’s house where 911 was called.

Both Hudson and the co-accused were arrested on November 11, 2014.

A date for Hudson’s sentencing has not yet been set.
