Police advised the public to guard against a scam in which a suspect posed as a pharmacy worker and took medication from a senior citizen in Selkirk.

On Sept. 30, RCMP said they received a report a 70-year-old woman had been home when she heard a knock at her door. She answered it and found a man wearing ID from a local pharmacy.

The man told her there was a recall on her medication and the woman surrendered two weeks’ worth of prescription medication, said RCMP.

The victim called the pharmacy afterwards and learned the man was not an employee.

RCMP advised people to be wary, ask questions and ask for identification. Police said if you have doubts, contact your local police agency or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Anyone with information in the case can contact Selkirk RCMP at 204-482-1222 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
