A Manitoba NDP MLA has been suspended from attending caucus meetings over verbal sexual harassment allegations.

A source tells CTV it is Mohinder Saran, the representative for The Maples.

However, the NDP party won’t confirm the identity of the suspended member.

The party released this statement:
“The provincial human resources branch was notified and investigated the allegations. The branch completed its investigation and is working with all parties to resolve all outstanding issues. The MLA is fulfilling all requirements of the process and is expected to complete it in a short period of time. At that time, the caucus will reassess the status of the MLA. Due to confidentiality issues and to protect the identity of the complainant, there will be no further comment.”

Saran was first elected as an MLA in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011 and 2016. He served as the minister of housing and community development from April 2015 until 2016.

He is the first Indo-Canadian person to have been appointed to cabinet in Manitoba, according to the NDP party's website.
