This weekend families all over Manitoba will be given the opportunity to fish for free.

From June 11-12 anglers will have the opportunity to fish without a licence province-wide, with the exception of national parks, as a federal licence is required. Provincial park fishing will be free.

“This weekend, we encourage Manitobans and visitors to our province to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and recreational fisheries free of charge,” said Cathy Cox, the sustainable development minister.

The province said it’s a summer tradition that has been offered since 1992.

“This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend with family and friends and explore Manitoba’s abundant fisheries and parks,” said Cox.

People fishing without a licence will be allowed to keep a conservation licence limit of fish, which varies by species.
