A pair of Winnipeg businesses are raising a glass to changes in Manitoba’s liquor laws.

Clients can now get a drink with their manicure, facial, or other salon service.

Total Wrapture Spa on Ness Avenue and Elan Hair Studio on Sherbrook Street are the first two salons to be licensed outside of spas in hotel settings.

Total Wrapture’s owner Angie Jureidini said so far the response is very positive.

“The initial response is a little bit of shock and then a happy smile,” said Jureidini. “Then somebody says, can I have a glass of red wine with my pedicure?"

Jureidini admits liquor at the salon is not for everyone but said it gives people celebrating special occasions more options.

In order to qualify for a liquor licence the salon must have food available on site.
