Canadian winter newbies covered up head to toe on Saturday to experience the fun side of the snow and cold.

Fort Whyte Alive hosted about 50 newcomer students for an event called First-Winter Experience. They explored a frozen river, snowshoeing and tobogganing.

"You're like skating on the lake. That’s a different thing. We don’t have that back home, a frozen lake of course. At first we think it’s kind of scary, but it’s much more cool afterwards," said Seinan Khan, from Pakistan.

The activities were organized by the International College at the University of Manitoba to help newcomers learn ways to adapt to the snow and cold.
