A new poll conducted after Tuesday’s televised election debate shows viewers found Progressive Conservative leader Brian Pallister to be the winner.

Manitoba’s only televised leaders’ debate aired on local news stations, including CTV, from 6:10 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

After the debate, Mainstreet Research polled 998 Manitobans who had viewed the debate.

Their margin of error was plus or minus three percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

The poll asked, “Who won the debate?”

Respondents answered:

Brian Pallister (PC) 44 %

Greg Selinger (NDP) 24%

James Beddome (Green Party) 19%

Rana Bokhari (Liberal Party) 4%

Undecided 10%

Other questions included, “Who will you vote for?”

Manitobans who watched the debate answered:

PC 47%

NDP 23%

GP 8%

LP 5%

Undecided 17%

As for their impression of the leaders, 57% of respondents had an unfavourable view of Selinger and Bokhari, compared to 25% who saw the NDP leader favourably and 16% for the Liberal leader. The remaining percentages were unsure.

Pallister drew 39% per cent in both favourable and unfavourable categories.

Asked about Beddome, 49% of respondents saw him favourably, compared to 23% unfavourable.
