A 32-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition after being stabbed in the upper body the night of Jan. 19.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue shortly before midnight to find the injured female.

Police said several people were taken into custody, including a 50-year-old man.

The police investigation found that a group of individuals, including the victim, were socializing at the home. An argument arose and escalated to the point where the 50-year-old man armed himself with a weapon and stabbed the woman.

Police said in the midst of the altercation, a second woman attempting to intervene, also received a minor injury.

James Ernest Bump of Winnipeg has been charged with a string of charges including attempt to commit murder.
