Canada welcomed 25,000 refugees from Syria this February and many Canadians believe the move has had a positive impact on race relations.

A new poll by the NRG Research Group and Peak Communications reveals that 41 percent of Canadians surveyed see the resettlement of Syrian refugees as having a positive impact on race relations. In Manitoba, 29 percent of people polled said opening the doors to refugees has had a “very positive” impact.

The poll reveals that three-quarters of Canadians still see racism as a problem in society today.

In Manitoba, about 42 percent of the people surveyed agreed with that while 35 percent felt it was a “big problem”.

One thousand people across Canada were surveyed online for the study.
