Heavy snowfall warnings have been issued for parts of southwestern Manitoba.

The warnings cover areas from the Canada-U.S. and Saskatchewan borders around Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, Boissevain and Melita, and north up to Duck Mountain Provincial Park and Swan River.

The snow storm is expected to last for several days. Environment Canada expects as much as 30 centimetres of snow could fall on the area by Wednesday.

A low pressure system over South Dakota will start to move slowly northward. Winds will pick up, reducing visibility on highways.

In Winnipeg, there’s a risk of freezing rain Monday morning as well as snow, between two and four centimetres. About five millimetres of rain is also expected. Winds will also pick up, with gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour.

Periods of drizzle will continue into the evening, between five and 10 millimetres. The snow and rain is expected to hang around for a few days, with periods of rain and snow again on Tuesday, and chances of flurries on Wednesday and Thursday.
