The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said it will hold its flu shot clinics starting Oct. 25.

It said the flu vaccine protects against four strains of the virus that are expected to pose the greatest risk to the population this year.

“Getting the flu shot not only protects you, as the recipient, but your loved ones as well including your children, siblings, parents, friends and colleagues,” said Bunmi Fatoye, Medical Officer of Health with the WRHA. “Each of us shares the responsibility to help prevent the spread of flu.”

It’s estimated 10 to 20 per cent of Canadians will be infected this year.

People like young children, seniors, people in long-term care settings, and those with chronic illness can run the highest risk of experiencing complications from the flu like pneumonia.

You can find the clinic nearest you through the WRHA’s Connected Care App, or by calling 204-956-SHOT. It’s also offered through doctor’s offices, pharmacies, QuickCare clinics, walk-in clinics or community health offices.
