Winnipegger Brenda Maxwell has invited the mayor for a tap water “tea party.”

She's had brown water off and on since July but Sunday night it was so brown she saved containers of the water.

"It was just so dark I just said 'That's enough. I'm going to fill the containers and invite them to come has a sip with me,'" she said, laughing.

Maxwell invited city councillor Dan Vandal, Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz and Diane Sacher, head of the water department, to drink it.

The city previously passed a motion to pay for claims of laundry ruined by brown water.

Maxwell wants the city to also help cover costs for replacement bottled water.

"I don't think I should have to be paying for (city) water, not being able to use it, and buying water as well," she said.

The mayor said council will consider reimbursing residents for more than just clothes.

"Whether it's dirty laundry or the fact their water was not what they defined as something they would drink, we're going to look at everything," said Katz.

As for Maxwell's tea party invitation, the mayor said he's open to that too.

"I would definitely go. If I'm on that invited list, of course I would go," said Katz.

Maxwell hopes her tea party invitation will bring answers about the brown water problem for her and neighbours.

She said Monday afternoon that she had yet to personally hear back from Katz, Vandal or Sacher about her invitation.
