The YMCA wants to keep its proposal alive that would see three new major facilities built in Winnipeg.

City council is debating whether or not to consider funding for the mega project. It passed a motion to work on a memorandum of understanding with the YMCA.

A YMCA delegation told council the facilities would save taxpayers money in the long run because the city would not have to pay operating and programming costs.

It hopes the city and province will help cost share the $150 million price tag.

The 75,000-square-foot centres would be located in southwest, northwest and northeast Winnipeg.
