CF Polo Park flash mob celebrates Earth Day by bringing community together
Shoppers at CF Polo Park were treated to a free show celebrating Earth Day Saturday afternoon.
Members of a local k-pop dance group took part in a flash mob at the centre of the mall, dancing in a choreographed routine to a popular BTS song.
"I really wanted to make sure that the choreography we made for this flash mob was accessible but fun," said Dana Lance with the dance group.
Climate Change Connection (CCC), a charitable non-government organization working to educate Manitobans about climate change, approached Lance to help organize the flash mob.
Jennifer MacRae handles social media and outreach for the organization. She said the flash mob was CCC's way of reaching out to the community after several years spent apart.
"We thought this was a great opportunity to reconnect with community, because it's through connections with our community that positive transformation and change takes place," she said.
McRae said CCC has been working with Manitoba's Climate Action Team in promoting its "Road to Resilience" plan, which advocates for policy change at all levels of government. The plan shows how Manitoba can produce food, shelter, transport and electricity without using fossil fuels.
"Today though is really about fun and connections and bringing our community together and having a good time!" exclaimed MacRae.
Lance said the flash mob couldn't have gone better, and the crowd of mall shoppers was very supportive.
"You never know who's going to show up," she said. "It's always nice to see the crowd out there for support, and it makes every one else feel better to do the dance."
CCC had other events planned throughout Earth Day at The Forks and Children's Museum. Next week, they will be at Assiniboine Park.
