The man accused of killing 15-year-old Tina Fontaine had his first court appearance pushed back by one day.

Raymond Joseph Cormier, 53, was scheduled to make his first appearance Monday.

An associate who said he was appearing on behalf of Winnipeg criminal defence lawyer Pam Smith requested Cormier’s appearance be moved until Tuesday.

Winnipeg lawyer Pam Smith confirmed to CTV News that she represents Cormier. She says she has spoken with her client and is now awaiting disclosure from the Crown.

Smith will not be appearing herself in court Tuesday morning, but a representative from her firm will be asking that Cormier's first appearance once again be put over to a later date so she can review the facts of the case.

Police arrested Cormier on Wednesday in Vancouver and he has since been charged with second-degree murder.

In August of 2014, Winnipeg police discovered Fontaine’s body in the Red River wrapped in a sheet or bag.

Cormier’s arrest came as a result of a 16-month long investigation involving the Winnipeg Police Service, Calgary Police Service, Vancouver Police Department and the RCMP.
