A 22-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a woman Thursday in Selkirk.

The crash was reported around 6:30 a.m. Thursday at a stop-sign controlled intersection at Vaughan Avenue and Mercy Street in Selkirk.

A Volkswagen and a Dodge Dakota pickup truck collided at the scene, said officers.

The 28-year-old female driver of the Volkswagen was extricated from the vehicle and rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Friends identified the woman as Andrea Bannish.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was uninjured in the crash.

On Friday, RCMP said Sean Nicholas Messner, 22,  from St. Andrews had been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.
