Meteorite hunters are springing up in Alberta as residents in all three Prairie provinces are buzzing over the huge fireball many saw streak through the skies last night.

Don Macleod, an oilfield worker in central Alberta, says while he didn't see the meteorite, he's heard media reports from people near Camrose, Alberta who say they saw it strike the ground.

Similar reports are springing up from areas around Edmonton and in central Alberta.

Macleod and his seven-year-old son are spending the day driving around back roads to see if they can find any souvenirs.

Edmonton resident, Andrew Bartlett, says he saw a bright light in the sky and it appeared to be very close.

He thought at the time that the meteorite may have landed somewhere in the city.

Scott Young, a spokesman for the Manitoba Planetarium, says eyewitnesses who saw the fireball saw it from different angles, depending on which province they live in.

Scientists are trying to determine where the meteorite may have struck the ground using data from sightings in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
