June 14 marks the start of the preliminary hearing for Theodore Raymond Herntier.

He's accused of second-degree murder in the beating death of 28-year-old David Joseph Boulanger.

Boulanger, also known as Divas B, was found murdered on November 3, 2004. Boulanger's body was found at a rest stop east of Portage la Prairie.

Boulanger, a transgendered person, worked in the sex trade.

No arrests were made in the case until RCMP announced Herntier had been charged in February 2010.

Outside court Thursday, friends of the victim said they wanted to be there to push for justice and to offer support to those left shaken by the murder.
