Work crews have begun cleaning up Ochre Beach after a giant wall of ice blew in off of Lake Dauphin and devastated several homes.
Strong winds on Friday evening blew chunks of ice off the lake and damaged 27 houses. Some
houses were pushed off their foundations, while others were filled with large blocks of ice.
Crews made considerable progress on Saturday, said Deputy Reeve Clayton Watts.
Heavy equipment pulled the ice away from the lakeside. Officials are now assessing which homes are still structurally sound.
Watts said 13 of the houses are write-offs and will have to be torn down. He thinks several others will have to be demolished as well.
Structural engineers are expected to have an assessment of the damage later this week.
