Winnipeg police have arrested three repeat sex offenders in the last 24 hours; and now some officers are now calling for tougher laws and better ways to track offenders in city neighbourhoods.

On Tuesday police arrested 37-year-old Corey Donald Wright. They charged him with sexual assaulted of a 45-year-old woman in MTS Skywalk on Monday. They say he has a long history of these kinds of assaults.

Earlier this week, Winnipeg Police and RCMP issued a public alert about 36-year-old Casey Dumas, a high risk sex offender living in the city. They said he'd broken many terms of his probation and was on the loose. The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit arrested Dumas Tuesday.

Another high risk offender, 41-year-old Luigi Deangelis, was picked up Wednesday.

Staff Sergeant Brant Bishop of the Sex Offender Unit says 30 hard core repeat offenders are monitored in the city on a regular basis. He says even after taking part in rehabilitation programs, many offenders will assault again.

"I think we should make these guys dangerous offenders, and keep them in jail indefinitely," he told CTV News.  "But that's a legislation problem.  It's very difficult to have anyone called a dangerous offender."

Bishop would also like to see more criminals forced to give DNA samples.

For now his unit is hoping to use technology to keep track of these offenders. They are testing a monitoring bracelet to track offenders on a 24 hour basis.
