The Lake Manitoba bantam and midget teams have been suspended from the league next season by the Interlake Minor Hockey Association.

Past-president Kris Barrett confirmed the decision was made at a meeting on Wednesday.

He said it was an accumulation of bad behaviour by the team that happened over the whole year and in past years that led to the decision.

He said the board will revisit the decision next season.

The same team had suspensions handed out to three players by Hockey Manitoba this week after a bantam game turned violent last month in Stonewall.

Yesterday, Interlake refs said they would no longer oversee future Lake Manitoba games.

Doug Zeller, referee coordinator for the league, said Friday that refs he has talked said they’re satisfied with the league’s decision on the bantam and midget team suspensions.

"The decision affirms that as an organization Interlake Minor is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of both players and officials," said Zeller in a statement.

Teams in other age groups from Lake Manitoba will have to play their home games in Ashern because visiting teams in the Interlake Minor Hockey Association will no longer travel to Lake Manitoba to play away games.
