Winnipeg police are investigating a roadside group attack that left one man seriously injured in Fort Rouge.

Police said around 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 18, a 57-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry in the area of Daly Street North and Mulvey Avenue.

The driver was headed southbound when he made a U-turn at Mulvey Avenue; while doing so, he didn’t see any other vehicles and continued north to Corydon Avenue.

Officers said it was at this time a group of nearly 10 men on sport bike motorcycles surrounded the man’s car.

According to police, one of the suspects started kicking the driver’s door while another tried to get inside. The door was eventually opened and the man was physically assaulted to the upper body, causing serious injury.

Police said a possible near-crash between the bikers and the car appears to have been the cause of the assault.

Information given to officers suggests the motorcycles might have been speeding; causing them to nearly hit the Camry after the U-turn was completed.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation continues.
