A man who left Victoria, B.C. on foot March 28 made a pit stop in Winnipeg as he makes his way to the final Truth and Reconciliation Commission event in Ottawa.

James Taylor said he is walking for survivors of the residential school system and for those who never returned home.

“What is the true reconciliation?” asked Taylor. “It’s the education of people to know that we’re still here. A lot of stuff happened and it’s important that a lot of the non-first nations people get to truly understand what has happened to our people.”

About two dozen Manitobans showed up to greet Taylor at The Forks Saturday night and offer him support.
