The fight over a retail development that will affect two Manitoba municipalities heads to the municipal board Wednesday night.

When the City of Winnipeg debated closing parts of Raliegh Street and Gateway Road for a big box development in February, the lawyer for Smartcentres questioned whether the city can make the call alone.

The roads would also impact nearby East St. Paul. The developer wanted the roads open to make it easier for North Kildonan residents to shop.

Residents had expressed their concerns about commercial traffic being diverted down residential streets.

A debate over the issue will be heard at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the East St. Paul arena.
