The first-degree murder trial continued Friday for Treyvonne Willis.

Willis is the man accused in the June 2012 death of Kaila Tran in St. Vital.

Tran's body was found in an apartment block parking lot along the Seine River.

On Friday, court heard from Juliette Smith, a witness who lives on the opposite side of the Seine River.

Smith said she was having her morning coffee shortly before 7:30 a.m. on June 20, 2012, looking out the window, when she saw a man running quickly along the river.

He slowed down and tossed a backpack before continuing to run, Smith told court.

Smith said she doesn't know where the backpack landed, but her husband went to look for it, and wasn't able to locate it.

On Thursday, court heard from Willis' friend Tremaine Sam-Kelly who said Willis brought a red backpack to the area where Tran was killed.
