Two Winnipeg police officers who were shot during a drug raid testified at the trial of their accused shooter Wednesday.

Const. Donald Murray told the packed court room that he thought he was going to die the night he was shot inside a Jubilee Avenue home in December 2006.

"I tried to stay awake because I thought I was going to die," he testified.

But even after he took a shotgun blast below his ribcage Murray said his thoughts were with his fellow officers.

The Crown asked him why, after he was shot, he did not shoot back.

"I couldn't see where the shot came from, and I didn't want to shoot blindly, because I didn't know where the rest of my team was," Murray answered.

The night of the shooting, the Winnipeg Police Street Crime Unit was executing a search warrant on the Jubilee Avenue home.

During that time, Daniell Anderson went into the bathroom with a shot gun. He's now accused of shooting the two police officers from behind the door.

Two years later Murray is still not well enough to return to work. When he does, it will be behind a desk.

Const. Curtis Penner was shot in the forearm during the incident. He too is still recovering from his injuries

A third officer was also wounded. Const. Jeremy Cull was shot in the leg by friendly fire.

Cull told the court a lot was going on at the time; but he remembers hearing Anderson's mother shouting: "Danny you shot a cop. You shot a cop. Danny please stop. Danny please stop."

The Defence says Anderson didn't know he was shooting at police officers. Now it is the judge's job to decide if that is true.

The trial is expected to last for two weeks.
