One person was killed and five others were injured in a collision that occurred around 2:55 a.m. Sunday in the area of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and St. Marys Road.

Police said their investigation has determined that a Chevrolet Cavalier travelling westbound on Bishop Grandin Boulevard and it collided with a Pontiac Sunfire travelling southbound on St. Marys Road.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The Cavalier was occupied by a lone female driver and the Sunfire contained five occupants, police said.

One occupant of the Sunfire died from the injuries sustained in the crash and two of the car's occupants remain in hospital in critical condition. The other occupants were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Cavalier was taken into custody and is facing numerous charges.

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased. However, CTV has learned the deceased is a 17-year-old female.

Officers are asking that anyone who may have information about the collision to call investigators at 986-6271.
