Fire ripped through a home in Transcona late Wednesday morning, and now the Arson Strike Force is looking for a witness to the fire.

While emergency services crews were on scene someone indicated they may have information that would be helpful to an investigation, but left before they could be interviewed.

Police would like to speak to that person and anyone else who may have witnessed the fire.

Fire fighters got the call at 11:14 a.m. and arrived at a side-by-side at 722 McMeans Avenue that was fully involved.

They quickly brought the fire under control and searched both levels of the house after reports that a young person may have been in the home at the time of the fire.

Those reports turned out to be false, but according to District 3 Chief Denis Maxwell a dog was killed in the blaze.

The fire started on the main floor of the dwelling and worked its way up the walls and into the roof.

The blaze was contained to the one home, and did not damage the other unit of the side-by-side.

The cause is still under investigation, and fire officials say damage to the structure is about $250,000 with another $75,000 to contents.
