Property owners at Delta Beach are frustrated after they said the province flip-flopped on a promise to protect them in case of a windstorm.

The Delta Beach Association said the local municipality got verbal approval from the province to begin erecting geotubes along the beach.

Geotubes are filled with sand and are an effective barrier against high water levels that get whipped up during wind storms.

The association said it was waiting for written approval but got word Tuesday morning that it cannot move forward with the work.

According to correspondence received by the RM of Portage, the province is focused on the Assiniboine River and will get to Lake Manitoba when that threat diminishes.
