With river levels continuing to rise, the provincial government is getting ready to operate the Red River Floodway Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.

The Red River is rising at all points. The province said Monday that levels at James Avenue are 17 feet (5.1 metres). Within the next week, those levels could rise to as high as 17.7 feet (5.3 metres).

The floodway is expected to stay above 14 feet (4.3 metres) until mid-July, and that means the risk of basement flooding is high.

The city is urging homeowners to check their sump pumps and backwaters valves, and ensure drainage is directed away from their homes.
