RCMP officers used a Taser to subdue a man who was threatening to commit suicide on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation late Tuesday night.
They got a call at about 11:00 p.m. that a 19-year-old man was highly intoxicated and damaging property at a home in the community.
When they arrived they found the man holding two knives to his own throat.
He reportedly asked the officers to shoot him, telling them that he wanted to die.
After 30 minutes of negotiating with police he began stabbing himself.
Officers used a Taser to subdue the man and were able to take him into custody without further incident.
The man's self-inflicted stab wounds were treated at The Pas Health Complex.
He is being held in custody. There is no word on whether charges will be laid.
