A building caretaker says a garbage bin in an alley along the 300 block of Home Street hasn’t been picked up for seven weeks.

She said the garbage is an unsightly mess, and a potential health hazard. People living by the building in the St. Matthews area are upset as well. A next door neighbor says she worries for the safety of her small child and is worried that the odour starting to emerge now will only get worse as the weather warms up.

The city said it has tried to pick up the garbage in the past, but a frozen recycling cart from a neighbouring property and a large snow ridge blocked the truck, preventing pick up.

City officials said it's up to residents to clear everything away so collection can happen.

The city said the snow has now melted considerably and a truck will be picking up the garbage on the scheduled day Wednesday.
