It was a deadly day on Manitoba roads on Saturday with four separate motor vehicle collisions that killed three people, sent several others to hospital and resulted in impaired driving charges being laid against one man.

McPhillips Street collision

A 71-year-old woman died and five others were sent to hospital when seven cars collided near the intersection of McPhillips Street and William Avenue around 5:00 p.m. Police said a Ford Ranger was speeding north along McPhillips when it hit a Honda Ridgeline that was turning east onto William Avenue from southbound McPhillips.

The Ranger then hit a Chevrolet Cobalt being driven by the 71-year-old woman before hitting another vehicle. Seven vehicles in total were involved in the collision.

The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Police arrested the 29-year-old driver of the Ford Ranger at the scene. Adam Quinn Langan is facing several driving charges, including  impaired driving causing death.

Highway 3 collision

Two men were killed when a car traveling north on Highway 3 about four kilometers south of Brunkild suddenly swerved into the southbound lane, sideswiped another vehicle and crashed head-on into the vehicle behind it.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 22-year-old Winnipeg man, and the driver of the third vehicle, a 48-year-old Hochfield man, died in the crash. Two other adults and one child were taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police said it’s not clear why the 22-year-old driver swerved into the other lane. Their investigation is ongoing.

Belmont collision

STARS Air Ambulance was called to airlift a Belmont man to a Winnipeg hospital following a crash northeast of Killarney. Around 8:00 a.m., police said the 44-year-old driver went through an intersection with a stop sign and was t-boned by a pickup truck.

STARS officials said extrication took close to an hour because the vehicle was so badly damaged.

The driver of the pickup had minor injuries. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor in the crash.

Waverly collision

A crash at the intersection of the Perimeter Highway and Waverly Street sent two people to hospital. Just after 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. Police said a 23-year-old woman was travelling westbound on the Perimeter when she went through a red light and crashed with an eastbound car.

The female driver and her male passenger were transported with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other car wasn't injured.

Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor in that crash.
