Winnipeg police say surveillance images helped catch a suspect wanted in connection with a string of thefts from mailboxes.

At the start of May, police released a public notice about a suspect wanted for a number of thefts from mailboxes in apartment complexes in the downtown, Osborne Village, south Pembina Highway, north Henderson Highway and west Portage Avenue areas in March and April.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested a man in the 200 block of Toronto Street on May 17.

Michael Roy Chief, 34, of Winnipeg has been charged with 39 counts of theft from mail, and break and enter, said police. He is being held in custody.
