Police say a suspect got on a Winnipeg Transit bus last month and assaulted the driver repeatedly.

Officers responded around 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 14.

The bus had been heading eastbound on William Avenue when it stopped near Isabel Street. A man got onto the bus but did not pay the fare, said police.

The suspect began demanding a transfer slip from the transit driver and then began assaulting the 50-year-old victim, said police.

Two other men got on the bus and tried to intervene, with one of the men also then assaulted by the suspect.

The suspect left the bus and a confrontation continued with several other nearby men.

Police said the suspect is described as a male, aboriginal in appearance, about 25 years old, six feet tall (183 cm), with a slim build and short, dark hair.
