Owners of a Stony Mountain Ski Area believe they may have to push their opening date back a week.

Gary Dewar and Heather Campbell-Dewar were hoping to open Dec. 3 but now, because of a lack of snow and cold temperatures, they may have open Dec. 10.

“It depends how much snow we get versus rain on Monday,” said Heather Campbell-Dewar.

A special weather statement Environment Canada said a low pressure system settling over North Dakota will bring wintry weather to southwestern Manitoba Monday morning and continue into Wednesday. Some areas of southwestern Manitoba could see between 10-20 cm of snow by Wednesday night.

The Dewars wish the snow would come to Stony Mountain.

“We’ve been doing this for 29 years. The past three years have been the most challenging,” said Campbell-Dewar

Last year the ski hill didn’t open until Dec. 18 and it closed mid-March. Campbell Dewar said they used to stay open until April, and the loss in business in the 2015-2016 season meant their revenue stream was down 40 per cent.

“We just want a normal winter,” Campbell-Dewar said.
