A man who allegedly fired at police officers pursuing him after an armed robbery now faces attempted murder charges.

On Saturday, police announced they had arrested a suspect after a gas station on Kenaston Boulevard was robbed in the early morning.

The suspect, wearing a disguise and armed with a weapon, confronted a female employee. At one point, a weapon was discharged before fleeing, said police.

Officers spotted the suspect near Regent Avenue West and Stapon Road about half an hour later. The suspect took off, driving at a high speed with no regard for public safety, said police.

The suspect fired his weapon at the police, who returned fire, said police. Again, no injuries were reported.

Eventually the suspect came to a dead end on Springfield Road, west of Lagimodiere Boulevard. Using the K-9 Unit, patrol officers took the suspect into custody.

Anthony Joseph Raposo, 51, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, as well as multiple firearms, robbery and dangerous driving charges.
