Island Lake RCMP responded to the report of a possible child drowning in St. Theresa Point around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.
RCMP said officers arrived after the local band constable had found and recovered the body of an eight-year-old boy.
The band constable is also a trained search and rescue diver.
RCMP said it appears a group of children had been playing on a rope swing when the boy slipped and fell in the water and was unable to get back to shore.
RCMP said the investigation is ongoing, and no charges are expected. Police said they would not be releasing the name of the boy who drowned.
