Health care workers in the Interlake have voted to strike.

Members of Interlake-Eastern Technical, Professional and EMS voted in late July in favour of the action.

Some of the union members work as paramedics in rural areas where the union said they cover long transports of patients to hospitals.

MGEU president Michelle Gawronsky said the most significant issues on the table relate to fatigue, recruitment and retention.

“These issues should be of great concern for residents in the Interlake-Eastern area as well as our members,” Gawronsky said.

Members of local 411 are home care case and resource coordinators, palliative care, mental health workers, dietitians and other health care professionals.

Strike votes were held in late July. The union said calls for a return to the bargaining table have gone unanswered since they rejected the employer’s offer in the spring.
