Winnipeg’s Jewish community rallied in support of Israel Sunday in light of recent violence in the Gaza Strip.

More than 200 people attended the rally at the Asper Jewish Community Centre in Winnipeg. The event was organized by the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.

Members of the federation said despite the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the party that governs the Gaza Strip, there is still concern for people in the region.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed,” said Shelley Faintuch of the federation. “We’re delighted there is an initiative that is going towards peace, however we believe all the people who were targeted need some support and that’s what we’re here to do.”

Last week, Winnipeggers held a rally at the Manitoba legislature, condemning Israel for its role in the attacks on Gaza.

A ceasefire in the area was declared on Wednesday.
