**UPDATE: Bird did not appear in court in Morden Tuesday. His next court appearance is Nov. 24.**

Justin Leslie Bird is scheduled to appear in court today. He is charged with manslaughter in the death of Zachary Straughan in a Winkler bowling alley in September.

Bird, 29, from Saskatoon initially faced charges of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Bird was charged after a violent assault Sept. 24 in the Valley Bowling Lanes in Winkler.

Police said Zachary Straughan, 25, and another man who were working on the same work crew, got into argument over an unpaid debt that turned violent.

According to Winkler Police, Straughan was hit with a pool cue several times and knocked unconscious. The suspect took off, but was eventually arrested at a nearby 7-Eleven.

Straughan, also from Saskatoon, was taken to Health Sciences Centre in unstable condition, but later died of his injuries.

Police said Bird is in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
