One man is dead and another is in hospital after two pick-up trucks collided on Highway 10 just north of The Pas on Friday afternoon.

RCMP said an early investigation found a 44-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation was driving a GMC truck southbound when he drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a Ford truck travelling north. The trucks were found in the east ditch, and both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The driver of the northbound vehicle died at the scene. RCMP said they will not be releasing the man’s name. The driver of the southbound vehicle is in hospital in stable condition.

RCMP said alcohol was a factor in the collision and are investigating.
