A new music festival in Winnipeg seems to have hit the right notes pairing fine wines, high quality foods, and music.

A huge crowd came out for the first Interstellar Rodeo this weekend at The Forks.

Musicians who stand the test of time were at the top of this year's bill. Sarah McLachlan, Blue Rodeo, and Steve Earle and the Dukes are some of the artists performing.

The festival encourages festival goers to pair the artists with wines available for purchase.

The name of the festival, which took place in Winnipeg and Edmonton this summer, has roots in Winnipeg.

"Interstellar rodeo comes from a Luke Doucet song, and Luke Doucet is a Winnipeg born and bred artist. He's now in the band Whitehorse,” said Sara Stasiuk with Six Shooter Records. “He had that lyric from a song years ago and that's where it came from."

As Interstellar Rodeo winds down organizers say it was such a success, expect the festival to loop back again next year.

“We are here to stay,” said Satsiuk.

She said 20 per cent more people showed up then they expected.

The music continues all day Sunday. Blue Rodeo is the last band to perform, and takes the stage just after 9 p.m.
