People looking to get a different view of the city had the chance to do so today at the Winnipeg Rowing Club's public open house on Saturday.

The club is encouraging people to join their program and get out on the water.

At 133 years old, the Winnipeg Rowing Club is one of the oldest sporting organizations in Western Canada.

Saturday’s event also gave people the chance to get inside the club and see some of the workout and training facilities.

Organizers say rowing is a great way to take advantage of the Red River, a full body workout, and a lifelong activity.

"We have programs that range from, basically, 10 years old until 80 or higher. We have members who row who are up to 85 years old,” said Brandi Smith, vice-president of programs for the club.

“In the summertime, we have lots of youth programs, youth camps for kids. We have recreational rowing programs if people want to just come get outside learn to row."

Smith says they also have competitive rowing teams that train five to six times a week.
