The Korean War is often called “The Forgotten War,” but on Saturday Manitoba Korean War veterans proved there are still plenty of people who remember.

June 27 marks 60 years since the cease-fire that ended the war. Veterans gathered in Winnipeg at Brooksidhu Cemetery for a candlelight service at the Korean War Cairn in the Field of Honour.

More than 26,000 Canadians fought and 516 died in the war that lasted from June, 1950 to July 1953.

The federal government has declared 2013 The Year of the Korean War Veteran.
