Winnipeg police arrested a suspect in the skateboard beating of a senior in a bus shack last week.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Portage Avenue around 7:40 p.m. on May 4.

They found a 63-year-old man with several injuries. He told officers he was knocked to the ground, assaulted and hit several times with a skateboard by an unknown man after he told him to stop smoking or leave the bus shelter.

Police released pictures of a person-of-interest and on May 10, officers went to a residence in Westdale and arrested a suspect.

Justin James Crowe, 24, faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

He was remanded into custody.
