A peaceful rally turned tense when pro-Israel and pro-Palestine groups rallied against one another.

The rally outside the Canadian Museum for Human Rights began as a pro-Israel event. The arrival of Palestine supporters came as a surprise to some.

“I didn’t expect them to be here, but they’re here. They have their story, we have ours,” said Israel supporter Adam Bronstone.

Police patrolled the area to keep the peace, as both sides shouted back and forth.

A second pro-Israel event drew hundreds to the Asper Jewish Community Campus. Police were present and bags were checked by staff.

Local and federal politicians attended, including Federal Cabinet Minister Shelly Glover, city councilor John Orlikow, and Member of Parliament for Provencher Ted Falk.
