The University of Manitoba received a $30 million donation Thursday to support its health sciences program, the largest gift in the university’s history.

The donation was announced at the College of Medicine’s 2016 convocation, which fell on Manitoba Day.

Ernest and Evelyn Rady, through the Rady Family Foundation, have committed the large sum to support the Faculty of Health Sciences.

“Perhaps the most important lesson I learned from my parents was the joy of giving back and making a difference,” said Ernest Rady, who is a U of M alumnus and holds an honorary degree from the university.

The Faculty of Health Sciences will now be known as the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. Future doctors will graduate from the Max Rady College of Medicine. No other college in the faculty will undergo a name change.
